Derek Conway to keep £13,000pa bonus job
>> 14 February, 2008
This is what ConservativeHome has to say about the story in today's Independent:
If Britain's political establishment is looking for ways of regaining the public's trust they should look to restore the link between good conduct and status. Extra transparency is welcome but more important is decisive action against those who do not meet basic standards of behaviour. The failure of ineffective ministers to resign is an obvious source of disappointment. Today, courtesy of The Independent, we learn that Derek Conway MP has kept a £13,000pa bonus that he receives from the taxpayer "as a member of the "chairmen's panel" appointed by the Speaker Michael Martin to oversee detailed debates on Bills."

The Speaker has now removed him from the Panel (15th February)
Is he still a Conservative Party member Nick?
No idea.
The whip has been removed so he is no longer a member of the parliamentary party.
Removal of the right to be a member of the Party involves a hearing by a special panel and of course there is, as in any party, a right of appeal.
You would be unwise to continue down this road as it would be seen as a vendetta.
